Guardian Angels in the Midst of Chaos
With 58 killed and over 500 injured, the October 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas was the deadliest in modern U.S. history. A gunman committed a senseless act of violence, firing into a crowd of over 22,000 concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
More Reform, More Problems
While some degree of criminal justice reform is needed to control prison overcrowding, recidivism and costs, there are negative consequences to the quick solutions that lawmakers and policy experts are doling out. The effects of realignment legislation (AB 109/AB 117) and Prop 47 and Prop 57 have, unfortunately, meant an increase of newly released inmates into our communities, along with rises in crime.
