Protecting the Rights of First Responders Since 1982
In the wake of the landmark decision of Janus v. AFSCME, Governor Brown signed SB 866 into law on June 27. The legislation was incorporated into the recently enacted state budget. The new law authorizes employee organizations to request payroll deductions and requires public employers to honor such requests.
With reports indicating a $1.4 trillion funding deficit for state public pension systems nationwide, it’s painfully clear that America’s pension crisis is getting worse each year. Most states across the country simply don’t have the assets needed to cover the pension promises made to public employees, leaving many of them worried about the fate of their retirement futures and the future of the pension system in general.
On Sunday, April 29, more than 1,000 runners participated in the 2018 Tommy Scott Memorial 5K, 10K and Half-Marathon at LAX. Hosted by the Los Angeles Airport Police Athletics and Activities League in partnership with LAAPOA, Los Angeles World Airports and the Association of Airport Employees, and supported by a host of generous sponsors and volunteers, the event brought together athletes, law enforcement and local families for another successful run to remember.
