The Los Angeles Fire Department has announced the first death of a firefighter due to the COVID-19 virus.

On Twitter the department stated that Firefighter III/Paramedic Jose M. Perez had died due to complications of the virus on July 25.

Firefighter III/Paramedic Perez, 44, is survived by his wife and three children. Perez had been with the department for more than 16 years.
